a Taylored Approach

5/30/2017 A Sequin A DayIt all started with a love connection thanks to ASOS. The meet cute, where you are snooping online and all of a sudden a beaded goddess catches your eye. You know it's totally not appropriate for your life in San Francisco but if you don't snatch her up, you'll regret the moment she was meant for. Totally like online dating, as my mom would say, you shop around! If only that was as easy as clicking checkout but back to the story of how an epic moment in my little top knot head became a reality. It was a quick two days before the sequin dream arrived at my doorstep and to say I was ecstatic is an understatement. Little did I know this thing weighed 5 pounds. Let's be honest, it was meant for a leggy 5'8 gal but I threw the silver glitter babe on and my 5'2 frame thought who cares, I can rock it. The 85 year old secretly living inside my heart was thrilled. People tend to tell me I am an old soul and for this story, it couldn't be more true. Enter Blanche, who by the way, I had no idea about until this trip but quickly got to know through a few episodes of Golden Girls yesterday. She is my style spirit animal. The night before as I was packing for Palm Springs, part of me was like ok TC, do you really need to lug this all the way to the desert? Baby Blanche screamed inside that it has to happen. Desert sequins have to meet the Pink Door. So there you go. This crazy photo op dream was born. Our last morning in Palm Springs was a toasty one! We decided to rent Beach Cruisers and venture to the neighborhood of the cutest colored doors. The old lady in me, heck my 32 year old self, would love to have a place here someday to escape. We met an adorable old man walking the neighborhood who was giving us advice on where to buy and totally played along because well, a girl can dream when she is living in a 500 sq ft. room. I can't wait for the day when I can have a front door where photo ops like these are made. Maybe it's time to do my research using an episode of House Hunters as the other must haves besides an amazing front door is the most perfectly manicured lawn and palms. It's a total lie that the bike ride was a smooth 3/4 of a mile jaunt to 1100 E. Sierra Way. I had not been on a bike in probably 20 years and was terrified. It was one of those things where the less you try, the better you are so just go with it. I wore my sequin jacket for the first 5 minutes in the 100 degree heat, just enough to surprisingly get a few honks from drivers down Palm Canyon but luckily the basket was there to hold the beaded babe and my Ark bag who came along for the ride. Ironically, a cute little lady driving by the pink door ended up sharing her adoration for my jacket. So to say that I am secretly an old bitty inside a city girl is eerily true. I've only visited #thatPinkDoor once before and this time was no different. It looks exactly the same except the silver sequin situation was able to join for the party. I tend to get a little cranky when I am hot, luckily hot yoga has curbed that a little bit but I had to update the hair to a mini topknot which worked out great for the photo. You know you have true friends when they are patient and don't laugh when you pack a huge sequin thing for a 5 minute opportunity in a 3 day trip. I was so appreciative for these gals and their photog abilities. I mentioned to someone I was brave for riding a bike to the pink door but actually, it was being fearless enough to get close to this door that was the ambitious part. I underestimated how tall the pink beauty is or maybe it's not realizing how short I am. Seeing these photos I may need to consider living life in 4 inch heels daily but nonetheless, this was the moment I dreamed of. Just a few doorsteps down are a pair of party lions. Another must have to add to the Palm Springs home criteria search; wild felines. My fondest furniture memory of my dear grandma ML was a long bench with mahogany arms that ended with lion heads so you could say I am a bit partial. The owners change out their accessories, another Tay dream. When I first met the pair of kitties, they had cupcake floaties and this visit, yellow and pink inter tubes; the perfect colors to complement my jacket. This bike tour was more than I could have imagined. Sequin glistening aside, it was full of laughs and we had the iconic bike scene from the movie Now & Then in our heads. All we needed to do was break into song. The last moment for our trip send off was to thank the desert skies, hence my little arms stretching to the palm trees in the middle of Sierra Way. If you made it through this sequin filled post, thank you! I hope I told a story that inspired you to take advantage of little photo ops in life straight from the girl who is really timid in front of a camera.
To those girls with granny souls... "Let go. Jump in. What are you waiting for?" 5/21/2017 Chiquita ChicI woke up early this Sunday feeling so refreshed, a little dare I say actually sunkissed and reliving my Palm Springs getaway over an iced vanilla latte. It was such a fabulous and fun filled few days, full of laughs, good food, pretty drinks and amazing photo ops that were much needed for this tired Girl Boss soul! So many cute photos in fact, there were too many moments to post. I actually found myself putting down my phone to opt for a much needed technology break. Maybe too many hours laying poolside were to blame but coming from the girl who usually takes 30 minutes to pick a filter, this was the perfect time to disconnect. Even better than disconnecting was strategically packing playful frocks to complement my Palm Springs rendezvous, where really anything goes. A few months ago, I purchased the coveted Cult Gaia Ark bag which has now exploded all over social. For me, it was truly love at first sight for this perfectly constructed wood being as it reminded me of my grandmother. ML had a basket bag she found on a trip to Martha's Vineyard and when I saw this round Cult version, in true Tay fashion, I had to have it. I spent our first night indulging in a few frozen strawberry slushies and my girlfriend found the perfect spot to not only show off the curves of my Ark bag but an off the shoulder maxi with complementary colors of the rainbow Saguaro hotel. Even the woven poolside accessories played into our color scheme. I felt very Chiquita-banana chic and threw on a black Western inspired belt to add some shape from Asos. Dinner night #1 was at the Purple Palm which was funny because we intended to visit the Purple Room, where apparently Frank Sinatra frequented back in the 60's. The Purple Palm was an adorable oasis tucked into the chic Colony Palms hotel. We had a table outside overlooking the pool and immediately, were swept away. My cocktail order, the Purple Rose. If you visit the Purple Palm restaurant, do yourself a favor and order the Scallop Tiradito Sashimi and Crab Fritters. I wish I caught a snap! The peaceful ambiance was the perfect kickoff to our mid-week getaway! Stay tuned for more #flashesofdelight as I attempt to conquer a major case of the Sunday blues. 2/5/2017 You got to be Pinning me!
